Salt Lake City or Bust

Day 26 - May 31st

Time to rise and shine! However, Robin was up but not shining! She really didn't feel up to par. After breakfast at the hotel, we decided to skip Capitol Reef National Park. Our original plans were to travel about 2 hours to the park, spend time in the park, and then travel at least another 3.5 hours to Salt Lake City, UT. Without going to Capitol Reef, our drive to Salt Lake City would be about 3 hours total. We both felt we needed some rest before we really got sick.

Paul had told us to drive over Soldiers Summit if we could possibly go that way. Now we could without any backtracking. It was a very nice drive with lots of beautiful scenery, including rock formations, trains, and snow covered mountains.

As we drove, we ran across a train depot visitor center rest area. We stopped and explored the exhibit. It had a roundhouse, water tower, and a silly man pretending he was the scarecrow in Wizard of Oz. Which way should he go?

We saw wind turbine farms strategically positioned to harness the wind as it whipped through the canyon areas. The wind was extremely strong throughout this whole area on the drive. Harnessing the wind was a good use of resources!

Finally, we got closer to Salt Lake City. The mountains we saw had a lot more snow on them in this area.

We checked into our hotel and then went right back out to go to CVS and order medicines. Since "Aunt Edna and Cousin Eddie" were coming in the next day, we stopped at Walmart to buy another clear tub so we could stack some of our purchases. We needed to make room for them or someone would be tied to the top.

We found a Texas Roadhouse and ate before heading back to settle in for the night. The day wasn't too exciting, but we did need the "down time." We could sleep in a little bit in the morning because Richard and Sharon's plane wasn't coming in until around 11:30 am. Sweet dreams!
