A Memorial Trip to Great Lakes Region

Great Lakes Region Trip

The purpose for this trip was to attend the memorial service for Robin's cousin, Les. On the morning before we left on our Colorado trip, Robin received news that Les had passed away. This was a shock to all of us. In May on our big trip out west, Dean and Robin spent 4 days in Pearland, TX with Les and Arlene. We had such a fabulous time with them. Now, we were having a difficult time wrapping our heads around the fact we would have to wait to see him again until Heaven. Arlene kept in contact with us while we were on our Colorado Trip. She decided to have his memorial service in Merrillville, IN since that area was where they were originally from and many relatives still lived close-by. We knew immediately that we were going, so the planning began. To make the best of a emotionally sensitive time, we decided to visit relatives, spend time reflecting, and sight-see along the way.

Day 1- October 31, 2015

Happy Halloween! Dean and Robin decided this would be a great day to leave on our Great Lakes Region Trip. While this usually is a fun night in our neighborhood, we needed to be in Merrillville by November 14th so the trip began.

Our destination for the night was Macon, GA, a distance of 409 miles. We drove up I-75, passed into Georgia after about 3.5 hours. It was fun to see all of the cotton fields along the way. The fields look like they are covered in snow.

We only stopped for restrooms, gas, and food, and we usually tried to combine those stops. We finally made it to our hotel in Macon, GA, Candlewood Suites. It didn't take us long to crawl into bed so we were ready for the next day of driving.
